EN – The 45 km mostly flat itinerary, starts from San Nicolò di Spoleto (PG) to Santa Maria degli Angeli in Assisi, it goes along the rivers Marroggia -Teverone – Timia, until Cannara, crossing the Valle Umbra.
We recommend you to visit Spoleto first, its Palazzo Comunale whose from July to September hosts an exhibition of Fernando Botero (check the point of interest for more information), the Tempio Romano, the Duomo, which makes a real pearl in Umbria.
The path starts in San Nicolò of Spoleto, only 4 km from Spoleto train station, the starting point is at the BiciGrill – Terminal Mattonelle (check the point of interest), where you could have information on the path and enjoy a nice coffee and talk with the owners, cycling experts. You are in the middle of the Valle Umbra and its magic green hills. You could stop and visit the Medieval Castle of San Giacomo, its small agricultural town. Continue the path and stop visiting Campello sul Clitunno and their famous bath sorgents (celebrated by Giosuè Carducci in its ode) and feeling back to the Grand Tour time.
While cycling you are immersed in the freshness of the rivers Marroggia, Teverone and Timia, in front of you admire the Colli Martani and Massiccio del Serano – Brunette, and looking North Est you discover the monte Subasio.
On your right, after 20 kms, you see Trevi. If you are brave enough you could reach the town center, after a steep hill, but it is worth looking down and admire the view, its olive tree and vineyard. Stop in Montefalco known for its red wine and Sagrantino. You could also visit Foligno, a small urban town, full of cycling locals, vising Palazzo Trinci and the Abbazia di Sassovivo, with its contemporary arts masterpieces.
Spello and its flowered balcons is not very far either, you should leave the cycling path at Bevagna using one of the countryside small routes heading North.
Continue and get surprised by Bevagna and its small underground rivers, all heading to Bevagna, stops for a tasteful panino with Porchetta (rosted pork).
While heading to the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, behind which stems Assisi, you could tell to yourself that this trip was worth all the efforts.
